Wow!  Where did 2009 go?  I can’t believe a year has passed already.    Some things are the same as last year. We still live in Dunkirk, New York.   I work at the college and Laura works at the credit union. It has been a busy year. The home renovations keep coming, which is to be expected with a one hundred year old house.  We finally took the wall paper down in the dining room and living room with the help of Laura’s parents. We repaired the walls and painted them.  These were the last two rooms left that we had not renovated since we bought the house.  This year we did have time to take a family vacation and went to Letchworth State Park   in central NY.  We did some hiking and saw three waterfalls.  The kids had so much fun.  We even discovered Panama Rocks which is about 30 minutes from our house.  It is a fun hidden gem in Western NY.  For photos click here

Rachel is now nine and in the fourth grade.  Her teacher is Mrs. Walzer-Meehl.  She started taking viola lessons this year as well as ice skating at the college. She also joined select chorus.  Right now her class is making it into a winter wonderland and it is almost done.

Ryan turned three and is so full of energy.  He is really into tractors and motor cycles this year. He continued in the music together class with Laura.

This year Laura went to a couple of scrapbooking retreats and had several outings with her mom’s group.  I had my gallbladder removed this summer and was able to go to Cincinnati for the USITT national conference where I saw many old friends.  I am looking forward to this year’s conference in Kansas City.

Tomorrow we will spend our first New Year celebration in New York.  This is the first time in 10 years we have not made it home for the Holidays.  We definitely miss the family and hope to get home soon.  We want to wish you all happy holidays and a happy and healthy new year.

Oct/Nov 2009

December 30th, 2009

It was a rainy, windy Halloween, but the kids found an hour where it was nice enough to trick-or-treat around the neighborhood. Rachel dressed up as the “Bride of Darkness” and Ryan was “Sparky” the Dalmation dog. Ryan had more fun passing out candy to the children than trick or treating.

Rachel turned nine this year. She wanted brownies for a “cake” and asked for all kinds of arts-n-craft projects. She had a nice birthday.

We made a trip to Missouri for Thanksgiving since we couldn’t make the drive during the christmas holidays. We had terrific meals with both sides of the family. It was good to be home with the family again!

Niagara Falls in July

December 30th, 2009

Michael and Rebecca stopped by for a visit on their way through NY in July. We headed to Niagara Falls for the day for a great day of sight seeing! We went on the Maid of the Mist, saw both the Horseshoe and American Falls and got soaked at the Cave of the Winds.

New Couches

August 30th, 2009

naples_otto_smHere are the pictures of our new couches. We bought two couches and an ottoman. We have been looking for a while and it took about 10hours yesterday to find this one.  We weren’t happy with anything we saw and as a last effort were going to another store when we saw a place called Sofa Mart.  We sat on it an it had almost everything we were looking for.  We wanted a sofa bed and they had one in this style but it was more uncomfortable than the one we are replacing. Here is a link to the whole set.naples_sofa_sm

2009 ROAD TRIPPPP

August 11th, 2009

Well I packed up the kids, left Laura at home and drove 16 hours.  Surprisingly the drive was not so bad.  I started the trip going to Warrensburg for a small get together with some CMSU theatre alumni.  It was at Dave Peerbolte’s house and it was great food and great conversation.  You can find pictures on facebook here

The kids and I spent a week in Richmond with trips to Worlds of Fun and the Science museum in Union Station.  The kids were rarley off the golf cart and went from one end of the farm to the other.  On Friday we picked up Laura at the KC airport and then on monday went to St Louis.

In St. Louis we had a Luai at Laura’s parents house with the family. We also went to the new city park downtown St L.  The fountains are great– we just wish we would have worn the swimming suits.  It was a great visit and very hot. On Sunday we came back to the great cool north. Below are some picts of the trip.

Pilgram Mini Camp

July 2nd, 2009

Last night I just back from four days and three nights at Pilgram Mini Camp, it was so much fun. It had a pool and we went hiking. There was a playground and we loved playing with our senior high buddies. My two buddies were named Henry and Lauren. We got rained on all week. I bunked with Grace and Brooke, in the room across from us was Amanda, Jacque and Sophia. In the room next to us was Emily, Maristia and Erin.  Some of the girls dared Erin to ask out one of the counslers named Deven. It was so much doing the campfire we sang songs, like The Princess Pat, Baby shark, Herman the Worm, The Other Day I Saw a Bear and The Littlest Worm.  It was so much fun going to camp i hope i can go again next year.

Painting and Spackel

July 1st, 2009

Here are the pictures from the painting of our

Dining Room and Living room. We had to remove the old wallpaper from the room and paint.

We started in early May with the help of Bob and Joanne Terry. They were up to visit Joanne made the mistake of saying she liked to peel off wall paper.

The dining room was first and its painted a color called Latte. We were going to do a dry

brush technique on top but the wall was too pitted and did not look good. Once i got done with school we started the living room. When we pulled the paper off we found the person who hung the wallpaper signed the wall, and that it was put up in 1984.

From painting

This time we took the extra step to Spackle the walls to cut back on the pits.  We got the room finished around June 20 just before my gallbladder surgery. We painted the wall Sea salt, its a blue green and in some light is blue and some light is green.
